In this blog post I will share some VMware Horizon 7 notes

The VMware Horizon Logical Architecture

I will try to list the components in a simple way

Connection Server

• Uses vCenter server to provision virtual machines
• Supports True SSO, RSA SecurID,RADIUS and smart card authentication
• Supports multiple windows OS & Linux distributions

Hardware Requirements:-

VMware has a nice platform for the products interoperability matrices, so always check it for the recent updates

Horizon 7 with vCenter & ESXi example

View Composer

• Creates and deploys linked-Clone desktops in vCenter Server.
• You can install vCenter server and view composer on the same virtual machines or on separate servers.
• Storage settings
  1. Disk space reclamation ==> reduces the size of the OS disks without refreshing or recomposing of the linked clones , space can be reclaimed while the virtual machines are powered on.
  2. Storage accelerator ==> which improves the performance during high I/O activity.

Event Database

• Must be configured to capture the events.
• Can be SQL server database or Oracle database.
• Use SQL authentication mot Windows authentication.
• The database user must have permission to create tables and view & to read and write to these objects.
• You must configure TCP/IP properties on SQL server to verify that the server uses SQL server authentication.
• Also, you can configure multiple syslog servers and one flat-file location.
