ESXi & vCenter Logs location

In this blog post I will try to display the ESXi & vCenter Logs location and also a simple description for every log file

ESXi Log files:

vmkernel.log	/var/run/log/	Hypervisor level logging including device discovery, storage and networking device and driver events, and virtual machine startup
vmkwarning.log	/var/run/log/	Summary of Warning/Alert messages that are logged from vmkernel
vmksummary.log	/var/run/log/	Hourly heartbeat logging and uptime, as well as startup/shutdown timestamps.
hostd.log	/var/run/log/	Host management agent logging
vpxa.log	/var/run/log/	vCenter Agent (vpxa) logging
syslog.log	/var/run/log/	Management agent, services, watchdog processes, scheduled tasks and DCUI activity
vobd.log	/var/run/log/	VMkernel observation events (storage latency)
hostd-probe.log	/var/run/log/	Host management service responsiveness (Good for checking unresponsive behavior on hostd)
fdm.log	/var/run/log/	HA logging (Fault Domain Manager)
auth.log	/var/run/log/	ESXi shell authentication access
shell.log	/var/run/log/	Shell command logging from ESXi command line

vCenter Logs:

vpxd.log	Appliance: /var/log/vmware/vpxd/	Main log file for vCenter Server (vpxd) service
vpxd-profiler.log	Appliance: /var/log/vmware/vpxd/	Metrics and Performance Statistics for vCenter Server Service.
vsphere_client_virgo.log	Appliance: /var/log/vmware/vsphere-client/logs/	vSphere Web Client logs
vcha.log	Appliance: /var/log/vmware/vcha/	vCenter High Availability log
vmware-vum-server-log4cpp.log	Appliance: /var/log/vmware/vmware-updatemgr/vum-server/	Main Update Manager log
sps.log	Appliance: /var/log/vmware/vmware-sps/	Profile Driven Storage logging
cls.log	Appliance: /var/log/vmware/content-library/	Content Library logging

PSC logs:

vmdir.log vmdird-syslog.log	Appliance: /var/log/vmware/vmdird	Logging for operations inside VMDIR. Problems with ldap operations and replication within SSO can be found here.
vmware-sts-idmd.log	Appliance: /var/log/vmware/sso	Logging for IDMD. Contains info on SSO authentication issues. Authentication requests/failures as well as problems with an identity source will post here.
psc-client.log	Appliance: /var/log/vmware/psc-client	Logging for the PSC UI built into the vCenter Server Appliance.
vmware-identity-sts.log	Appliance: /var/log/vmware/sso	Contains information about authentication requests and attributes collected via responses from the identity sources.
ssoAdminServer.log	Appliance: /var/log/vmware/sso	More information about interaction from SSO to the identity sources. Shows domains being searched.
